1 year old little man

So, Levi turned one year old last Friday. Very exciting and monumental. Naturally, I feel like we didn't make a big enough deal out of it, since we didn't have a big party with bunches of people to celebrate. But, I think Levi had a fun weekend, and was fine with it all. First thing in the morning, he woke up to balloons and streamers, birthday banners and hats. He got to put on his "I'm 1 year old" shirt and wear it proudly.

Friday morning happens to be our playgroup/mommy bible study day, so he did end up getting to play with some friends for his birthday. They stuck a candle in a banana bread muffin and all sang happy birthday to him. He smiled during the song, and devoured the muffin, thank you very much. I guess I haven't posted about the playgroup, so I'll share a little now. We meet every Friday at a lady's house. So far it's been 6 women and 4 little boys. The kids just play while we go over our study. It's worked out really well. They're nice to each other and play together or separately. They're all 1 and 2 years old, and are all relatively calm boys. Levi has enjoyed it and been ready for a nap on the way home afterwards. It was a nice way to start his birthday weekend.

Papa ended up getting off work right after our bible study, so he got to be home with us all day. It was very handy. Levi had his first cake experience, of course. He thought it was somewhat strange, and wasn't sure what to do. He didn't want to eat it with his hands, cause it was too gooey. So, he used a fork, as well as he can. Mostly, he just wanted to play with the cars that were on the cake.

He pretty much opened presents all weekend long. We figured if we spread them out over a few days, he could appreciate them individually. He got lots of great things. His favorite presents were the wagon he got from his Nanny and Grandpa Shalz. He really loves to be put in it and pulled around the house. He'd stay in it all day, if we would pull him all day. Also, he got an ABC animal jungle set from his Auntie Vera and family. He started playing with that the moment he saw it. He carries around the different animals all day. Papa and I got him some Lego's, which so far, are just used for throwing and pulling out and putting back in their box. He doesn't care to really put them together quite yet. Grammy and Grandpop's best present is yet to come. They are helping us get Pippin here on May 27th, and Levi will be so thrilled when that happens. He's enjoying the Kitty (which he calls Kit Cat) but Pippin will be so much more involved and loving. Can't wait!
I like the smirk on his face with the Lego's.

Papa and I also got him a little kiddy pool. He got in it right away, in his clothes and all. He was cold, so couldn't stay in for long. But he really enjoyed it. He stood at the back door staring out at it for a while after we came inside.
The party continued on to the next day, when we went to the beach. I thought Levi would have lots of fun and enjoy it, being outdoors and all, but it was a flop. We should have just gone to a park instead. He doesn't like the Ocean. The water is too loud I think. It scares him. And then I think he's just too young for sand. Every time he got sand on his hands, he would rub his face and his eyes. So, just a few minutes after we got there, he was miserable because his eyes were sandy. Needless to say, we didn't stay long, and now we know to wait a while for the beach. Kiddy pools and parks for us!
The whole experience really zonked him out. So he got a good little sandy eyed nap on the way home.

The party went on all weekend, and spilled into Mother's Day. All the decorations are still up because...we're just like that. Any excuse to party. I mean, we might as well leave them up for my birthday right?
So now, Levi is a 1 year old. He runs around all day long, attempts to speak and succeeds here and there, is growing well and has great motor skills, according to the doctor. Average height, average weight, big head apparently. Moral of the story...he's perfect!

how cute, sounds like he had a fun birthday. I'm glad he liked our present, I thought he might since he is so into animals.
Bummer about the beach, living in Hawaii and all.

What a great report for all of us who wish we'd been there! He looks so much like both of you, and that smirk picture looks just like a combo of smirks Ive seen on yours & Nathan's faces! How do smirks combine? At least that shot at the beach is a great one for the scrapbooks!

Thanks for posting the birthday pixes. The pix of Levi with the Leis on is so cute. I love his 1yr old shirt and am so glad he is getting to have some little friends to play with. Hope Levi doesn't drive you crazy wanting to be pulled in his wagon. Maybe soon he'll get the idea to pull others himself. We can see all is well there.

You're right. He is perfect! Looks like you had loads of fun. Levi's b-day present has been shipped. Sorry I'm always late on this stuff. I am not a timely person. But we love him all the same.
